A classical work, typical of German Expressionism and European Modernism, Bruckner’s Pains of Youth brings to the stage young medical students torn between the conventions of bourgeois existence, a youthful sense of rootlessness and the cynicism of a modern society. As the play progresses, we see their youth consume itself and self-destruct, creating a world even more horrible than the old one providing only an illusion of salvation.
Jovana Tomić has already directed two very successful productions for our Studio YDT stage (Nathan the Wise and My Husband) that have been a staple of our repertoire for a number of years.
Additional performances on 17th, 19th and 30th September.
