Natalya Petrovna (Mirjana Karanović), wife to rich landowner Islaev (Marko Baćović), spends her days in endless boredom of life at their country estate. That is why she welcomes the attentions of their family friend Mikhail Rakitin (Svetozar Cvetković), making sure their relationship never blossoms into a proper romance. All this changes with the arrival of Aleksei Belyaev (Marko Janketić), her son’s new tutor. Natalya falls in love with young Aleksei and he falls in love with her even younger ward Verochka (Milica Gojković). The stage is now set for days of strong feelings and passionate yearnings, turbulent events, tough decisions and momentous changes, days that last only a month – before boredom and loneliness re-establish their rule over the life of Natalya Petrovna.
This delicate comedy by Ivan Turgenev blends together his ideals from modern West European drama with the motifs, technique and sentiments of a world that will become the foundation for the Russian drama of the second half of 20th century, a phenomenon which will reach its apogee in the writings of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov.
