Slobodan Šnajder, a great Croatian, Yugoslav, and European playwright, novelist, essayist, and thinker, has passed away.

The production of his play The Croatian Faust, directed by Slobodan Unkovski and performed in 1983 on the Main Stage of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, remains one of the most significant milestones in the history of our theatre, as well as the theatrical history of the entire region.

As one of the most prominent writers and intellectuals of our era, Slobodan Šnajder leaves behind a profound and lasting legacy across literature, theatre, and cultural thought. His passing is a painful loss not only for his family and loved ones, but also for the wider artistic and intellectual community of the region where he lived and worked.

The Yugoslav Drama Theatre shares the deep grief of Slobodan Šnajder’s family, friends, and admirers, while holding the immense pride in having been, and remaining, a part of his monumental opus.
