FIFTIETH PERFORMANCE OF THE BELGRADE TRILOGY

The Belgrade Trilogy, by Biljana Srbljanović, directed by Ivan Vanja Alač, will have its fiftieth performance on Thursday, 23rd May.

The production opened on 24th April, 2021 on the Studio YDT stage as a graduation production by Ivan Vanja Alač with the cast including Ognjen Nikola Radulović, Lenka Petrović, Nikolina Vujević, Đorđe Mitrović and Miloš Macura. The original text was adapted by Ivan Vanja Alač who also designed the set. Costume design by Srđan Perić and Aleksandra Stošić Krstović with Ljiljana Mrkić Popović in charge of speech coaching.

The Belgrade Trilogy was part of the Week of Change festival held at the Promena theatre in Novi Sad in February, 2022.

The play The Belgrade Trilogy was Biljane Srbljanović’s graduation piece for which she won a Slobodan Selenić award in 1996, the first year the award was established. The play was staged for the first time the following year at the Bojan Stupica Theatre, directed by Goran Marković.

The author herself described The Belgrade Trilogy as “an autobiography of the entire city. Told in three bittersweet stories, from Prague, Sydney and Los Angeles, it relates the lives of immigrants – stateless people who once used to call Belgrade their home. They are brought together by one night and one girl who remained in Belgrade.

The Belgrade Trilogy has been staged around the world in over thirty different productions (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, America, Scandinavia…). It was also published in the German magazine Theater der Zeit. In addition to German, the play has been translated into English, French, Arabic, Italian, Romanian, Danish….
