Rehearsals have begun at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre of The Tin Drum based on the novel by Günter Grass, directed by Vasil Hristov.

The Tin Drum by Günter Grass is one of the most significant novels of XX century which pushed against the boundaries of literary tradition. In 1979 Volker Schlöndorff directed the famous film of the same name telling the story of Oskar Matzerath, a thirty year old psychiatric patient who, when he was three years old and in the days before the rise of Nazism and the beginning of World War II, decided to stop growing. As a form protest against the world of adults, Oskar offers his comments on the historical events from a child’s point of view, painting a picture of a world heading for self destruction.

The cast includes Miodrag Dragičević, Jovana Belović, Marko Janketić,  Joakim Tasić, Iva Manojlović, Lazar Đukić, Tamara Šustić and Teodor Vinčić. The novel was adapted for the stage by Vasil Hristov with dramaturgy by Vesna Radovanović, set design by Konstantin Trpenoski (mvv.design), costume design by Marija Marković Milojev, original score composed by Nikola Kodžabašija with Ljiljana Mrkić Popović in charge of speech coaching.

The Tin Drum is scheduled to open in December of our Ljuba Tadić stage.
