Work began at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre in September on the upcoming production of MaMa. This stage project is based on motifs from Maga Magazinović’s autobiography “My Life” (published by Clio), as well as various documentary materials.
Maga Magazinović was a pioneer of modern dance in Serbia and a trailblazer of feminism who truly lived out her beliefs at the beginning of the 20th century. The central theme of the production is motherhood. Through Maga Magazinović’s life story – and the theatrical and personal principles this extraordinary woman established during her lifetime – MaMa alternates between dramatic and dance scenes to explore what has actually changed in the life of a woman and a mother over the past century.
The production is written, directed, and designed by Jelena Zablaćanski, who also stars. Stage movement is choreographed by Aleksandra Arizanović, with costume design by Marija Marković Milojev.
The premiere of MaMa is scheduled for October 17th, on the Studio Ćirilov Stage.
