A performance of Oedipus by Sophocles, directed by Vito Taufer, is scheduled for Thursday, 2nd November at 28th edition of the Without Translation festival of Yugoslav theatre in Užice.
In October this year, Oedipus took part in the tenth MITEM International theatre festival in Budapest, in June it had two guest performances at the ZYT in Zagreb and another guest performance at the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad. Last year the same production had a guest performance at the Slovene National Theatre Drama in Ljubljana. The tickets for all guest performances were sold out days ahead of the actual performances and the cast received standing ovations before packed houses, just as it happened after every performance at the YDT. And once again the level of interest in this production is very high and the tickets for the performance in Užice are sold out.
Since it opened on 17th September, 2022, the tragedy of Oedipus by Sophocles has had 34 performances at the YDT alone. So far, more than 20,000 spectators have enjoyed this production and tickets for three to four performances scheduled every month were normally sold out as soon as they became available.
The Yugoslav Drama Theatre has been the most successful theatre company at the Without Translation festival in Užice. So far, we have had 29 performances and won 54 Ardalion awards at this festival.
