Performances of Fires by Maria Velasco, based on the prose work Fires by Marguerite Yourcenar, directed by Carme Portaceli, are scheduled for Friday, 17th and Saturday 18th February at the Finisterre festival at the National Theatre in Porto (Portugal). This co-production between the Yugoslav Drama Theatre and the National Theatre of Catalonia in Barcelona is part of a pan-European “Catastrophy” project organised by the Union of Theatres in Europe. All co-productions under this project will be performed at the festival in Portugal.
The Union of Theatres in Europe launched the “Catastrophy” project in 2020 with the idea of creating an artistic memento of the consequences of the global crisis caused by the pandemic. Theatres from Portugal, Spain, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece, Slovenia and Serbia are taking part in the project.
The production premièred in Belgrade on 2nd February with the cast including Sloboda Mićalović, Nataša Tapušković, Milena Vasić, Nikola Rakočević, Iva Manojlović, Damjan Kecojević and two actors from the National Theatre in Barcelona – Rosa Renom and Kiwani Julian. Set design by Maria de la Camara and Gabriel Paré Lezcano, costume design by Marija Marković Milojev, original score by Jordi Collet with audio-visuals by Miquel Àngel Raió. Choreography by Damjan Kecojević with Ljiljana Mrkić Popović in charge of speech coaching.
Performances of Fires at the National Theatre of Catalonia in Barcelona will take place in June.
