
A guest performance of In Agony by Miroslav Krleža, directed by Ivica Buljan, produced by the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, is scheduled for Saturday, 4th June on the Ljuba Tadić stage of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre. This guest performance by the CNT will take place exactly two weeks after a well received performance of The Travelling Troupe Šopalović by Ljubomir Simović, directed by Jagoš Marković, in Zagreb.
Dramaturgy and adaptation for the stage of the play by Miroslav Krleža by Vid Adam Hribar, set design by Dalibor Martinis, costume design by Ana Savić Gecan with orginal score composed by Mitja Vrhovnik Smrekar. In Agony by Miroslav Krleža is the second play in the Glembay cycle, together with Messrs. Glembay and Leda. The action takes place in 1922 and the main character is Laura, a former noble woman whose once rich and influential husband went bankrupt with the downfall of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the establishment of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. He seeks solace in drink, gambling and love affairs and Laura is left trying to survive working as a seamstress and finding solace in a lover of her own. This play is considered by many to be the best and most famous of all the plays written by Krleža and the cast in this production includes Krešimir Mikić, Nina Violić, Livio Badurina, Iva Mihalić, Marin Klišmanić andi Ivan Colarić (musician).
The cooperation between the Yugoslav Drama Theatre and the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb was re-established in 2015, after nearly three decades and the last guest performance by CNT at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre was King Lear by William Shakespeare, directed by Januš Kica in October 2018.
