General Assembly of the Union of Theatres in Europe (UTE) was held this weekend at Yugoslav Drama Theatre. UTE is the most important theatre association in Europe whose members are some of the most important theatres from around Europe such as Piccolo Teatro from Milan, Teatro di Roma from Rome, National Theatres from Athens and Thessaloniki, Maly Theatre from Moscow, Volksteater from Vienna, Schauspiel from Cologne… YDT has been a member of this network of most important European theatres since 2006 and it is interesting to point out that only four UTE member theatres are not from an EU country – two from Russia, one from Israel and one from Serbia (YDT). The artistic director of Yugoslav Drama Theatre Gorčin Stojanović is a member of UTE Board of Directors.
During the Assembly, UTE member theatres presented the activities planned for the coming period with a special focus on the Union theatre festival held in Cluj (Romania) from 19th – 30th November. All UTE member theatres will be taking part in the festival and YDT will be represented by the production of Lorenzaccio by Alfred de Musset, directed by Boris Liješević.
Yugoslav Drama Theatre hosted the UTE conference in 2012 when the main topic was the great European project under the title of The Fallen Angel of History which the UTE member theatres from around Europe used to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of First World War.
