Rehearsals for Inter Alia by Suzie Miller, directed by Tara Manić, began yesterday at the Yugoslav Drama Theatre.
Following a brief, externally conditioned delay in implementing previously approved repertoire plans, the program for the first half of the season will be fully realized.
The cast of Inter Alia features Milena Vasić, Srđan Timarov, and Aleksa Kangrga. The play was translated by Ivana Đurić Paunović, with Dunja Matić as dramaturg, Zorana Petrov as set designer, Selena Orb as costume designer, and Vladimir Pejković as composer. Stage movement is by Damjan Kecojević, and speech coaching is by Ljiljana Mrkić Popović.
Suzie Miller’s Inter Alia arrives at the Studio Ćirilov stage just a year after its world premiere in London, which starred Rosamund Pike. Following the global success of her monodrama Prima Facie, Suzie Miller tackles the question of how to raise a family in a modern world of starkly contrasting value systems in Inter Alia, the second part of her trilogy.
Through the story of a woman trying to balance her career, marriage, and motherhood, Inter Alia explores the boundaries of parental responsibility and societal expectations, as well as the conflict between the personal and professional, private and public. How fair can the justice system truly be in the face of complex human relationships, and how objective can a mother remain when that complexity concerns her own child?
The premiere of the production is expected in December.
